The “Obradovic-Tixier Duo”
The “Obradovic-Tixier Duo” is a duo project that combines jazz with their other musical influences such as pop and trip-hop, all passing by electronics. The “hyper duo”, an instrumental, multi-awarded project was created in 2016 in Bern, Switzerland by the Croatian drummer Lada Obradović and the French piano player David Tixier. They create acoustic music mixed with electronics and percussions, all while telling stories through the music, which are the leitmotif of the project. Throughout their career, the duo performed in more than thirty countries around the world and have recorded six albums since 2016.
Their first album, “EP 2017” brought them multiple national and international awards, such as first prize “Jazz À Vienne 2018”, first prize “Jazz Au Phare 2018”, first prize “Colmar Jazz Festival 2018”, first prize “La Défense Jazz Festival 2019”, best band prize at ”Made in New York 2018”, among others. Their second album, the two-title vinyl, “Professor Seek and Mister Hide” was released in 2019 and their first LP, “The Boiling Stories of a Smoking Kettle” produced by Jazz À Vienne and British Naim Records, in 2020. During the pandemics, in early 2020, the duo composed a new music based on their feelings about the artistic struggles during that period, loss, grief and survival that many had to encounter and endure. The album, called “A Piece of Yesterday” (Cristal Records) was released in 2022as a special edition with a printed and illustrated fable imported in the CD and the vinyl, written by David Tixier and illustrated by Manuel Šumberac. In 2023, the duo decided to record another two-title vinyl called “The Only Thing That Matters” with a special and inspiring guest Raphael Rowe; a British journalist and host of the Netflix series “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons”, who created and recorded the text for the eponym composition, about his wrongful conviction and incarceration for a crime he never committed. In 2024, for the creation of their sixth album “Jiggled Juggler”, the duo called the passionated Croatian artist Ivana Svjetličić to paint a portrait of a juggler who incarnates the image of a 21st century society, its struggles and the fake ideals it represents.
In 2021, David and Lada signed with the Swiss in-ear monitors company Gaudio Labs, and started using the “Gaudio” in-ear monitors for studio and live sessions.

“The internationally award-winning Obradovic-Tixier duo makes a tidal-wave splash at the legendary Jazz à Porquerolles Festival’s 2024 edition! “The music,” says Croatian drummer Lada Obradovic, “is a painting of life, a vision of the world, a scream transcending the sounds of the universe.” Even this preface can’t fully prepare us for the exhilarating journey of this program, in which Obradovic’s rhythmic changes come fast, precise, and surprising — slowing down only to let French pianist David Tixier’s enchanting notes, in turn, wash the stage in vivid and bittersweet color. Reunited for their 2024 EP The Only Thing That Matters, this virtuosic pair has what it takes to win over every listener, from newcomers to committed jazzheads in this unmissable performance on medici.tv.”

“Obradović-Tixier Duo is the combination of French pianist David Tixier and Croatian drummer Lada Obradovic. The duo produce a contemporary and stylish sound blending acoustic and electronic instruments, moog, Fender Rhodes, glockenspiel, mbira and other playthings. A soft yet striking performance where David’s sophisticated harmonies and lyrical drama interweave with Lada’s polyrhythms. An almost serial shamanic piano phrase is muffled by digital blankets whilst a volley of cymbals whisks us away like wings beating through the air. Together, the pair weave a captivating tale.”

“An unusual and innovative music, elegant and sensitive, elaborated and interactive. Between light touch and strength, it fascinates and surprises as much as it stimulates.”
Nicole Videmann (Jazz A Vienne)
“The compositions performed by the duo are linked with a surprising agility. Lada is an artist with an outstanding musicality and as drumming is for me as a piano made out of skins that she touches. Her subtle embrace made out of copious variations and dynamics, times with faint musical deception, built with amplitude, switches from one rhythmical superposition to another. Her polyrhythmical compositions facilitates a space and ambience for the voice of the piano to resonate. David, an architectural pianist plays simultaneously two keyboards, one acoustic, the other electronic. In order to express the layers to illuminate his compositions, which is achieved by his obsequious right hand on the synthesizer while the electronic sounds serve as an echo chamber to the purity of a piano. This duo is filled with enduring personalities, rhythmically precision which allows the composition to bear fruit.”
